What do energy renovations cost?

The cost of an energy renovation depends on the type of renovation or project in question. At their most affordable, energy measures can be free, while the largest investments can run into the hundreds of thousands of euros. However, it is often possible to carry out energy renovations in a cost-neutral way, so that the resulting savings can be used to finance the entire renovation, and there is no need to increase the housing company fee to cover the costs.

At best, an energy renovation thus has virtually no impact on housing costs because it begins to generate savings immediately. An energy renovation is not something like a plumbing renovation, which is an investment that the shareholders pay back slowly:  energy renovations pay for themselves, as energy costs are permanently reduced.

Today, the payback period for a large energy renovation in a housing company is typically 10–15 years. For smaller renovations, the payback period is shorter. In addition to loans, renovations can also be financed through infill construction (opens in a new tab). In addition, energy renovations can nowadays also be purchased as a service or leased. Financing options are constantly diversifying.
