Energy renovation

Energy renovations are renovations that involve improving the energy efficiency of the building and/or adopting new, renewable energy sources in the building. Energy renovations are typically a combination of various measures.

Energy renovations in a housing company can include works such as installing geothermal heating or a heat recovery system. Withsuch renovations, housing companies do not usually have to  wait for a major overhaul; instead the renovation isusefuland pays foritself even as a standalone project. Residents can also usually continue living in their home as normal during an energy renovation project.

For some renovations, it may be more economical to wait for the next major renovations: For example, installing solar panels on the building’s roof right before a roof renovation project may not be wise, as these would have to be removed. Ideally, the planning of window and façade renovations should always include a review of the possibility of improving the thermal insulation of windows, the roof and façades. In principle, almost all renovations offer opportunities for improving the housing company’s energy efficiency and reducing energy costs.

Increasing weather phenomena, such as heatwaves, should also be considered in connection to an energy renovation. The need for cooling in housing companies is increasing year by year and in connection with geothermal heating projects, for example, it makes sense to consider a suitable cooling solution, such as geothermal cooling, which has very moderate usage costs. Passive cooling solutions such as solar shading with blinds, awnings or planting trees for shade are also good ways to prevent overheating in homes.
